How We Came To Be
Once upon a time there was an elementary school at 4806 South 66th in Tacoma. Over time, it "retired" and became the Manitou Community Center, part of Metro Parks Tacoma. The latest transformation brings you the independant studios of the Manitou Community Art Center, sharing space with Kids Korner Day Care, Northwest Tae Kwon Do, and others. We currently provide classes in pottery, glass and ceramics, as well as renting flexible studio space with firings uncluded. A real sense of community invades everything that happens here -- come visit and see!

Tacoma, Washington based potter Jenifer Davis's passion is to create irreverently shaped functional sculptures and pots. Jenifer offers both custom works, which she throws by hand in her studio one at a time for private clients, and classes. The hand-thrown process leaves a good deal of the outcome to fate. Jenifer revels in this serendipity, and is fond of saying "the clay is happy in it's natural state, with a tender yet firm hand you can convince it to do what you want". She also loves the randomness of the transformation in the firing process. From adding glass to finding a new beautifull glaze combination, the best part is seeing what emerges after the kiln is opened.
